Mental Health First Aid: Mental Illness in the Workplace
ft. Jeff Thomson
During this program Jeff will help us:
- Identify the risk factors & warning signs for mental health & addiction
- Learn how to apply the strategies for helping someone in both crisis & non-crisis situations
- Learn how to guide people on where to turn for help
- Learn to apply the ALGEE method to aid in someone finding the appropriate help
Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to the signs of mental illness and substance abuse disorders. This training gives you the skills that you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance abuse problem or experiencing a crisis.

Jeff Thomson is the Regional Director at Corporate Chaplains of America. Corporate Chaplains of America (CCA) brings care to the workplace, where it is needed most, and where it can make a meaningful difference. CCA cares for those individuals who need a trusted friend and confidant and those who can’t bear their burdens anymore. Jeff leads a team of Corporate Chaplains that provide confidential care-giving sessions at company sites. Jeff has studied Economics at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, has his Masters I Theology from the Liberty University and received his Certificate of Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary.
Jeff has most recently partnered with Festival Foods to offer training in Mental Health First Aid and has traveled around the state of WI bringing this training to all of Festival’s leaders. Training and guiding individuals is one of Jeff’s top passions and he is excited to bring this topic to HR Professionals in the La Crosse area.
